You might want to head over to the Webnash Design-build web site, run by Michael Erkkinen, he has loaded up some more great photos of the face lift of his home. An interesting refurb, and one Michael has undertaken with what I have seen to be his trademark style.

Most importantly he changed the overall aesthetics of the front of this house, in the excellent article that follows the pictures, Michael explains some of the rules he followed, more notably the value of proportion. Explaining the rules of the golden rectangle, using the fascade of his houses front elevation.

Further on, he expands his thoughts on the way Architectural Design has become 2 disaplins not one, this is an interesting comment from Michael, and one I tend to agree with, although I can see a lot of trades men coming through college who are becoming more and more qualified, but the question of Architects and Technologists splitting the Architectural design proffesion is one I am more than aware off.

Today's photo is of the golden rectangle, it's easy to set up, and drop onto any window and see if it works the way Michael says, I can never get the ration to match exactly, 1.61803 You might want to rad a book called “The Divine Proportion” by H E Huntley, bit of a heavy read, but it will help you understand the idea of Proportion. Read through Michaelmas smile there are a couple of pages to follow up on, and do a search on Google for images there are some interesting items.
